<p>The service provider for Government Wi-Fi Service (SSID:&quot;Wi-Fi.HK&quot;) is required to implement content filtering service. The content filtering system is operated independently by the service provider. The Government neither specifies any additional criteria in websites classification nor requests any monitoring on the operation or details of website analysis. The Government also does not collect or examine any information related to websites being filtered. The Government only requests filtering of websites that are classified as containing obscene, indecent, malicious or illegal contents. The content filtering requirements would be adjusted at some venues in accordance with the Internet usage policy specified by the venues concerned, to align with the operation of these venues. For example, online gambling websites are also filtered at public libraries. If you consider a website is wrongly filtered, please contact the helpdesk of respective venues for follow up with the content filtering service provider for further study and analysis on the classification.&nbsp;</p>

The other SSIDs &quot;freegovwifi&quot;, &quot;freegovwifi-e&quot; and &quot;Wi-Fi.HK via GovWiFi&quot; have been removed to avoid confusion. &nbsp;For encrypted connection using &quot;freegovwifi-e&quot;, it was introduced since 2008 to provide encryption between the computer/mobile device and the Wi-Fi hotspot, but it is unable to provide an &quot;end-to-end&quot; encryption between the computer/mobile device and the electronic service (be in a website or a mobile app). With technological advancement in recent years, the use of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is very common nowadays and has become the default setting for most websites and mobile apps which can provide more secured &quot;end-to-end&quot; encryption to users. &nbsp;We have also added another level of security through client isolation to limit attacks and threats between devices connected to the Government Wi-Fi hotspots. In considering the limitation of the &quot;freegovwifi-e&quot;, we have stopped the encrypted channel service in Government Wi-Fi venues starting early November 2018.</p>

<p>The actual performance would depend on the number of concurrent users and the signal strength of the spot the user is located. &nbsp;There is a 240 minutes connection time limit set for the service and user will be disconnected if his/her connection time reaches the limit. &nbsp;However, user can reconnect to the Government Wi-Fi service if spare connections are available. &nbsp;Moreover, user will be disconnected from the service if user has moved out of Wi-Fi coverage area.</p>
